Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday received Acting Director General of Punishment and Correctional Institutions at the UAE Interior Ministry Brigadier General Saeed Ali Lootah, and the accompanying delegation.
Gen Shaikh Rashid noted that the visit aimed to exchange expertise and review Bahrain’s experience in implementing alternative sentences. “This experience has become an exemplary model for the criminal justice system and for enhancing community security through constructive community partnership,” he said.
The minister highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the two countries, led by His Majesty King Hamad, and President Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He commended the security co-operation and co-ordination and the keenness to enhance the exchange of expertise within a framework of integration to safeguard collective security and protect the achievements and interests of the GCC states.
Gen Shaikh Rashid noted that the Alternative Sentencing Project, part of rehabilitation-oriented initiatives and programmes to strengthen social cohesion and community building, was launched in line with the royal vision. “It is a pioneering humanitarian and reformative system that balances the protection of society with the rehabilitation of the individual, making punishment a tool for reform that benefits society and is grounded in the values of justice and social responsibility.”
