A proposal to rehabilitate a deteriorating road in a Hidd neighbourhood will be discussed tomorrow by the Muharraq Municipal Council, following concerns over public safety, vehicle damage and repeated flooding during rains.
The issue centres on Road 1022 in Block 110, opposite House No 728, where residents have complained about cracked asphalt, uneven surfaces and rainwater accumulation.
The services and public utilities committee has now formally recommended action, calling for an urgent update on modification and maintenance works.
Hidd councillor Mohammed Al Meghawi, who submitted the request, said the issues have persisted for years and residents have been left frustrated without a response.
“This request was first submitted in December 2021, yet the situation on the ground has not changed,” he said.
“The road surface is badly cracked and continues to damage vehicles, while rainwater pools dangerously after every downpour. Residents deserve clear answers on why this has taken so long.”
Mr Al Meghawi stressed that the problem was not cosmetic, but directly affects safety and quality of life.
“We are talking about a residential area where families live. Leaving roads in this condition exposes motorists and pedestrians to unnecessary risk.”
The committee cited structural damage to the road and persistent flooding as key justifications for intervention, while also demanding clarification from the relevant authorities over delays in implementation.
Committee chairman Abdulqader Al Sayed said the council is committed to holding executive bodies accountable.
“The committee fully supports this request because the technical justifications are clear and documented,” he said. “When infrastructure problems persist for years without resolution, it is our responsibility as a council to follow up, question the delay and push for corrective action.”
Mr Al Sayed added that the recommendation would be formally referred to the relevant ministry, with expectations for a clear timeline and response. “Residents should not have to repeatedly submit the same request to receive basic municipal services.”
According to official records, a follow-up request was lodged with the Works Ministry in December 2025 under the category of urgent road maintenance, referencing the original 2021 application.
Council members hope tomorrow’s discussion will lead to concrete steps to resolve the issue and restore safe road conditions for residents of Block 110.
