Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro has issued a decision exempting institutions, companies and banks that use computers for their accounting from maintaining paper commercial books.
The decision, published in the Official Gazette, stipulates that the Industry and Commerce Ministry shall recognise electronic commercial books used by institutions, companies, and banks, granting them the same legal validity as paper commercial books, provided that the following procedures and rules are applied to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data recorded by the computer system. These include that the electronic system must have technical protection to safeguard stored data and prevent any modification, deletion, or alteration, and that data must be entered into the system on a regular basis within the time frames stipulated by law.
