THE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) convened the 19th meeting of the Spectrum Strategy and Co-ordination Committee as part of its strategic efforts to prepare Bahrain’s telecommunications sector for future global developments.
A central focus of the meeting was the kingdom’s preparation for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27), an international event organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The conference, scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, from October 18 to November 12 next year, serves as a global platform for countries to reach agreements on the use of radio frequencies. These decisions directly impact mobile services, satellite communications, and other essential systems.
The committee emphasised that early preparation is vital, as the outcomes of WRC-27 will play a decisive role in shaping global communication frameworks and enabling the deployment of emerging technologies. By maintaining an active presence, Bahrain aims to protect its national interests, foster innovation, and ensure the continued availability of advanced and reliable communication services.
Members reviewed regional co-ordination initiatives with neighbouring countries aimed at improving cooperation in broadcasting and mobile communications. These collaborative efforts are designed to reduce signal interference, enhance service quality, and ensure seamless communication across borders.
Additionally, the committee discussed the TRA’s broader national, regional, and international engagements throughout 2025. This review reflects Bahrain’s ongoing commitment to aligning with global best practices and strengthening its leadership role within the telecommunications sector.
Mariam Jumaan, chairperson of the board of the TRA and chair of the Spectrum Strategy and Coordination Committee, highlighted the significance of the upcoming global summit.
“The World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 is an important global milestone,” Ms Jumaan added. “Its outcomes will influence the future of communications and the adoption of new technologies. By preparing early and working closely with regional and international partners, Bahrain is ensuring that it remains ready to support digital growth and the evolving needs of all sectors”.
The TRA reaffirmed that the committee will continue to track global developments and enhance coordination with stakeholders to ensure the efficient and sustainable use of spectrum resources in line with Bahrain’s national priorities.
