Bahrain reaffirmed its support for regional and international efforts aimed at achieving a political and sustainable solution in Venezuela, within a framework of regional co-operation and respect for national sovereignty, in a manner that ensures security and stability in the country, spares it the risks of conflict and division, safeguards civil peace, and contributes to preserving regional security and stability as well as maintaining international peace and security.
This came in the statement delivered by Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaie during the emergency briefing session of the United Nations Security Council held under the agenda item ‘Threats to international peace and security’ to discuss developments in Venezuela.
The Permanent Representative commended the Secretary-General’s reaffirmation of adherence to the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and expressed Bahrain’s support for the Secretary-General’s call on all relevant parties in Venezuela to engage in inclusive dialogue, in a manner that ensures compliance with international law, helps ease tensions, preserves regional stability, and spares the region any negative repercussions that could affect its security and stability.
The Ambassador also expressed Bahrain’s support for regional and international efforts aimed at de-escalation and the advancement of diplomatic engagement, underscoring the importance of enhancing international co-operation to support all regional and international efforts to combat the spread of organised crime and narcotics, and the resulting consequences that threaten community stability and hinder the achievement of sustainable development, while ensuring that these challenges are addressed in accordance with relevant international conventions.
