An academic paper has confirmed the existence of an integrated vision for the management of the Bahrain Fort site, which is listed as a World Heritage Site.
The site includes an archaeological mound, a sea tower and a water channel, and is characterised by historical diversity ranging from the Dilmun civilisation to the Islamic period.
Shadha Abulfath, an architect and director of the Bahrain Fort site, revealed during the Gulf Archaeological Heritage Forum, organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, that the future vision for Bahrain Fort goes beyond viewing it merely as an archaeological site.
She explained that there is a project to revive the entire area.
“Bahrain Fort District project will offer visitors a broader experience than just visiting the museum and the fort.
The experience will be comprehensive, encompassing surrounding farms, horse stables and several heritage houses located to the south of the site,” she said.
