BASKETBALL – AL Najma claimed a well-deserved 89-77 victory over Nuwaidrat last night in their gameweek nine clash of the 2025-26 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Najma were in control for virtually the entire contest and went ahead by as many as 17 points late in the fourth quarter. They then took their pedal off the gas in the last two minutes, allowing their opponents to reduce the final deficit.
Ali Aqeel had 22 points to pace Najma in their win. He sank 12 of his game-high 13 free-throw attempts and also dished out eight assists. Donovan Smith added 16 in the win while Mohammed Kowayed had 15 off the bench. Mohammed Abdulla Jaffar was their other player in double figures with 13 points. Quinton Rose had 30 to pace Nuwaidrat in the losing effort, while Hassan Abbas finished with 16.
Najma triumphed for the fourth time in seven tries in this season’s top-tier premier division, while Nuwaidrat suffered their eighth setback in nine outings.
In yesterday’s other game in the lower-level League B, Al Ettihad routed Bahrain Club 91-61.
Ettihad never trailed in the contest and built leads as big as 34 points in the fourth quarter.
Romeo Enan had a fine double-double with 18 points and 20 rebounds for the winners, while Mohamed Ghazwan chipped in with 14 and Isa Jassim Juma had 13 off the bench. Both Ghazwan and Juma fired in three three-pointers apiece.
Ali Baqer paced Bahrain Club with 17 points while Ali Hussain Rajab finished with 14 in the loss.
Ettihad maintained their undefeated record in League B after seven games, while they handed Bahrain Club their sixth loss after eight assignments.
Gameweek nine concludes tonight with a single game on schedule. It is between Al Ahli and Al Hala, and it is scheduled for an 8pm tip-off at the same venue.
