The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) yesterday assumed the presidency of the General Assembly of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, succeeding Jordan’s National Centre for Human Rights.
This came as the NIHR, in co-operation with the Arab network, organised its annual conference under the title: “Protecting Children in the Digital Space: Challenges, Legislation and Preventive Measures”. It coincided with the network holding its 25th general assembly.
NIHR chairman Ali Al Derazi emphasised the importance of strengthening joint Arab efforts to protect and promote human rights, particularly children’s rights, in light of the growing challenges posed by the digital space. He noted that protecting children in the digital environment requires developing relevant legislation and building effective protection mechanisms that keep pace with rapid digital transformations.
He also reviewed the efforts of Bahrain and the NIHR in this field, expressing hope that the conference’s outcomes and recommendations would contribute to strengthening digital governance and supporting the role of Arab national institutions in protecting children’s rights.
