Ways of strengthening security co-operation between Bahrain and Pakistan were discussed yesterday as Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari met Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday.
Several community security programmes were also discussed.
An agreement was reached to continue co-ordinating efforts to confront the threats posed by organised crime and drugs, based on the established partnership between the two countries.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of President Zardari’s visit to Bahrain and his meeting with His Majesty King Hamad.
The Pakistani President commended the efforts of the Interior Minister and his co-operation with his Pakistani counterpart in developing security coordination, within the framework of their shared commitment to deepening bilateral co-operation.
The minister expressed his appreciation for the positive outcomes of the Pakistani President’s visit.
He noted that the meeting between the King and President Zardari reflected the historical ties and close co-operation between the two nations.
Gen Shaikh Rashid also expressed his gratitude to the President for his commitment to enhance collaboration and joint action.
President Zardari later departed the kingdom, concluding his official visit.
He was seen off at Bahrain International Airport by Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani, Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna Al Romaihi, Deputy Muharraq Governor Jassim Al Ghatam, Pakistan Ambassador Saqib Rauf, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mohamed Ebrahim Mohamed and officials.
