SMS-based fraud messages posing as traffic violation notices are increasingly targeting individuals in Bahrain, prompting warnings from technology experts.
The scam messages falsely claim that traffic fines have been recorded against recipients’ vehicles and urge immediate online payment to avoid higher penalties or legal action, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
The messages include links to fake websites designed to closely resemble Bahrain’s official national portal (bahrain.bh), using similar layouts and colours to mislead users.
While some users may notice discrepancies in website addresses or verification methods, others proceed with payment, as the fraudulent sites allow access to payment pages without proper verification.
