Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit has described Bahraini diplomacy as wise, calm and balanced, praising the competence of its diplomatic corps and its measured assessment of regional and international developments.
Speaking in the first episode of the Sound Voice of Thought podcast launched by the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), Mr Aboul Gheit said Bahrain’s early openness to education for both men and women since 1890 helped build capable human capital and a well-informed diplomatic approach grounded in moderation.
He stressed that knowledge, dialogue and openness are essential to overcoming societal challenges, noting that violence cannot resolve disputes and that consensus is key to stability in Arab societies.
Mr Aboul Gheit also said Arab diplomacy faced a major shock after January 2011, describing what is called Arab Spring as a period of chaos that weakened states and diplomatic institutions. He noted that while much of the Arab world was affected, the Gulf region remained stable and secure.
