Bahrain has affirmed that the rule of law, at both the national and international levels, constitutes a fundamental pillar for the maintenance of international peace and security, in accordance with the UN Charter.
This enshrines respect for the principles of sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of states and the peaceful settlement of disputes, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York Jamal Fares Al Rowaie told a high-level open debate at the Security Council.
He stressed that the fulfilment of international obligations in good faith remains the true guarantee for the prevention of conflicts and the promotion of global stability.
The rule of law cannot be fragmented or applied selectively, but must be respected and upheld by all, without exception, he said at the debate on ‘Reaffirming the international rule of law: Pathways to reinvigorating peace, justice and multilateralism’, which was presided by Somalia.
