Plans to set up temporary sea‑view seating areas in Al Sayah, Muharraq, have received approval from the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry.
The initiative – put forward by the Muharraq Municipal Council – aims to enrich public spaces in Block 229 and provide residents and visitors with attractive waterfront seating options.
Municipalities Affairs Under-Secretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa confirmed that there was no objection, in principle, to the council’s recommendation.
“There is no objection, provided that co-ordination takes place between the executive body of Muharraq Municipality and the relevant authorities to obtain all necessary approvals,” said Shaikh Mohammed.
“The seating areas should be temporary and seasonal until the property is fully developed,” he added.
He praised the Muharraq Municipal Council for proposing initiatives that enhance municipal facilities and services.
Council technical committee chairman and area councillor Mohammed Al Mahmood said the initiative aligns with the council’s vision to revitalise under-utilised municipal properties for community benefit.
“This project aims to transform a vacant plot in Al Sayah into a vibrant public space overlooking the sea,” he said.
“It will give families and visitors a place to sit, relax and enjoy the coastal environment.”
Mr Al Mahmood stressed that the proposal is designed as a temporary and flexible solution, ensuring that future development plans for the site remain unaffected.
“The seating areas will be seasonal and non-permanent, allowing the land to be easily reclaimed once development begins,” he explained.
He added that the council will work closely with Muharraq Municipality and other relevant entities to secure all necessary approvals and ensure safety, environmental and planning requirements are met.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to listen to residents and respond to their needs,” said Mr Al Mahmood. “Al Sayah’s coastline is a valuable asset, and thoughtful projects like this help residents connect with their surroundings.”
