Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani yesterday met former British prime minister and Global Commission on Combating Trafficking in Persons chair Baroness Theresa May on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Dr Al Zayani is in Germany to take part in the prestigious conference.
The Foreign Minister and Ms May discussed the strong historical ties of friendship between the two countries and ways to enhance co-ordination between Bahrain and the commission.
They also discussed the kingdom’s achievements and distinction in protecting and promoting human rights and in combating human trafficking, which is reflected in its ranking in Tier 1 of the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report for the eighth consecutive year.
Views were also exchanged on Bahrain’s key priorities during its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council from 2026-2027, in addition to other issues of common interest.
The meeting was attended by Bahrain’s Ambassador to Germany Ahmed Ibrahim Al Qurainis, Co-ordination and Follow-up Sector head Saeed Abdulkhaliq and the delegation accompanying the minister.
Dr Al Zayani separately met his Latvian counterpart Baiba Braže and reviewed bilateral co-operation.
They also discussed aspects of joint co-ordination during both countries’ non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council.
They exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments and their impact on regional and European security, efforts to de-escalate tensions and resolve conflicts and advancing efforts to achieve sustainable peace in the Middle East and Europe.
The Foreign Minister met Oracle chief executive officer Mike Sicilia to discuss co-operation in information technology, artificial intelligence training and cloud computing.
They also discussed opportunities for co-operation in secure infrastructure and emphasised the importance of investing in information technology to promote economic growth and sustainable development. In addition, they exchanged views on topics of mutual interest.
