Bahrain’s Shura Council marked two major national and religious occasions yesterday – commemorating the 25th anniversary of the National Action Charter and welcoming the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.
Two statements were delivered by Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh, while several members, including human rights committee chairman Dr Mohammed Al Khozaie, also addressed the chamber.
Marking the silver jubilee of the National Action Charter, Mr Al Saleh extended congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the people of Bahrain.
He described the National Action Charter as ‘a bright national milestone in the modern history of Bahrain’, stressing that it paved the way for a new phase of national action founded on a wise royal vision.
“The charter consolidated the principles of popular participation, the state of institutions and law, and a progressive democratic approach,” he said.
“It stands as a unifying document that expressed the sincere national will and embodied the strong cohesion between the leadership and the people.”
He added that the qualitative progress and pioneering achievements witnessed over the past 25 years across legislative, developmental, economic and social fields were the natural outcome of adherence to the principles of the National Action Charter.
“What Bahrain has achieved over a quarter of a century is the fruit of a firm commitment to the charter’s values and of a shared belief, between leadership, government and people, in continuing along this integrated path towards a more advanced and prosperous future,” he said.
Mr Al Saleh reaffirmed the Shura Council’s full commitment to working in accordance with the charter’s foundations and to continuously developing its legislative performance in co-operation with Parliament and the government.
He also renewed the council’s pledge of loyalty and allegiance to His Majesty.
Mr Al Saleh also congratulated the leadership, the people of Bahrain, and the Arab and Islamic nations on Ramadan.
“I pray to Almighty God that this blessed month returns upon all with goodness, prosperity and blessings, and that God preserves our beloved kingdom and grants it continued security, stability and progress under its wise leadership,” he said.
