Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA), in co-operation with the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, held the 30th edition of the Bahrain Holy Quran Grand Prize.
Ministry Under-Secretary Issa Sami Al Mannai said 78 contestants, including 38 males and 40 females, qualified for the final rounds out of a total of 5,033 participants in this edition.
Mr Al Mannai noted that the current edition witnessed wide participation, exceeding 5,000 contestants, reflecting the strong turnout and the award’s standing as one of the kingdom’s most prominent Quranic competitions. He added that the finalists advanced through several stages and were assessed in accordance with approved criteria in memorisation, recitation and tajweed.
He emphasised that the award comprises seven competitions across various categories. The categories included memorisation for Quran centre students, ‘Bayan’ for school students, ‘Ajran’ for persons with disabilities, ‘Ghufran’ for inmates, ‘Ridhwan’ for the general public, ‘Salman Al Farsi’ for non-Arabic speakers, and the recitation and performance category.
Mr Al Mannai added that the award also includes several incentive prizes, namely: The Oldest Contestant Award; the Youngest Contestant Award; the ‘Mizmar Dawood’ Award; the Best Participating Quranic Centre Award; the ‘Family in the Shade of the Quran’ Award; and the Best Local Quranic Competition Award.
