Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday planted a Ghaf tree to mark the launch of the second phase of the initiative, with the kingdom aiming to plant 100,000 Ghaf trees.
He set out the kingdom’s ongoing efforts to enhance environmental security and address the challenges posed by climate change, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Shaikh Mohammed noted that Bahrain is committed to implementing plans that reinforce environmental sustainability, improve the efficiency of natural resource management, and strengthen community awareness on the importance of environmental protection in order to work towards achieving the kingdom’s sustainable development goals and securing a better future.
He said that the launch of this phase supports the implementation of the National Action Plan’s initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, in line with the vision of His Majesty.
Ghaf trees are distinguished by their ability to adapt to harsh environmental conditions, particularly in desert areas. Their roots enhance soil fertility through nitrogen fixation, and they are highly tolerant of drought and soil salinity, while also enhancing the aesthetics of their surroundings.
Several senior officials, as well as UAE Ambassador Fahad Mohammed bin Kardous Al Ameri, attended the event.
