Bahraini student Hadi Al Matouq has achieved an impressive second place in the autonomous robots category at Qatar’s 2025 edition of the Gulf Skills Competition, earning regional recognition for his innovative engineering talent.
Mr Al Matouq, a student at the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Technology Institute, said the award‑winning project was the result of a collaborative effort with fellow student Hamad Abdullah. Together, the duo designed and built an autonomous robot capable of performing complex factory operations with high precision.
According to the young inventor, the robot is engineered to move, rotate, carry, classify, sort and accurately place materials in their designated locations – capabilities that mirror tasks typically found in modern automated industrial environments.
The device was constructed using a combination of standard mechanical components, such as the frame, motors and sensors, along with custom‑manufactured parts produced through 3D printing technology. These additions, including enhanced motors and advanced sensors, significantly boosted the robot’s performance and operational efficiency.
