A unique iftar initiative has been launched by the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), highlighting the culinary skills of widows and orphans while providing 1,000 hot meals daily throughout Ramadan.
The Netaj Khair Al Bahrain initiative, introduced in 2019, has begun its Iftar Saem 2026 programme, through which freshly prepared meals are distributed to low‑income families and individuals in need across the country.
These meals are prepared in the Netaj Kitchen, a facility dedicated to empowering widows and orphans by training them in essential culinary techniques, food safety and hygiene practices.
According to Netaj Khair Centre head Rua Buasli, the campaign forms part of RHF’s broader development efforts aimed at equipping the local workforce to manage productive projects and become self‑reliant members of society.
This year, 17 graduates of the Netaj Kitchen, working under the guidance of chefs Shawki Hussain and Laila Habib, are supporting the Ramadan operations.
In addition to the daily distribution of 1,000 meals to families, charities, mosques and registered societies, a weekly community iftar will be hosted every Tuesday at a different mosque.
The RHF project has now expanded to include three core areas – Netaj Training, Netaj Kitchen, and Netaj Handcrafted Products, reflecting its growing role in social and economic empowerment.
According to the RHF website, the foundation currently supports nearly 32,000 orphans and widows across the country.
