Bahrain’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has expressed deep concern over the coordinates and map deposited by Iraq with the United Nations. The ministry highlighted that these documents infringe upon the sovereignty of Kuwait over its maritime areas, including its established maritime elevations such as Fasht Al Qaid and Fasht Al A’aij.
The ministry affirmed Kuwait’s full sovereignty over its maritime territories and expressed its categorical rejection of any claims by other parties. Moreover, the ministry urged Iraq to take into consideration the historical relations between the two nations and their people.
The ministry called upon Iraq to act responsibly and in accordance with the principles of international law, particularly the provisions of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). It further emphasised that Iraq should act in a manner consistent with the existing agreements and bilateral memoranda of understanding between the two countries.
