A Serie A football match between Atalanta and Napoli took a violent turn for a 40-year-old supporter who was hospitalised after being stabbed by his wife at their home in Capodimonte, Naples.
The incident, which authorities described as a misunderstanding exacerbated by football-related frustrations, reportedly began after Napoli's performance prompted the fan to shout insults at the television. Tensions peaked following a controversial VAR decision that overturned a penalty awarded to the Naples club.
The man's wife, allegedly misinterpreting his outbursts as personal insults directed at her, confronted him. A heated argument ensued, culminating in the woman throwing a pair of scissors at her husband. When the scissors missed, she reportedly seized a kitchen knife and stabbed him in his left side.
Despite the ongoing attack—during which further knives were thrown, with one becoming lodged in a wall—the injured man managed to alert emergency services. Police arrived at the scene and arrested the woman on charges including domestic violence and aggravated assault.
The victim was rushed to hospital where he received treatment for his injuries. Medical staff have since confirmed that his condition is not life-threatening.
