Two defendants, whose ages and nationalities have not been revealed, have been sentenced to five years in prison and each fined BD2,000 by the High Criminal Court for human trafficking.
They will also have to cover the costs of returning their victims back to their home country.
The Public Prosecution received a report from the Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate, stating that the defendants had deceived two people into travelling to Bahrain on the promise of finding them legitimate employment. Instead, after their arrival, the victims were denied their freedom, locked in a flat, threatened and coerced into engaging in unlawful activities.
Following an investigation and subsequent court proceedings, the victims were placed in a shelter affiliated with the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons.
