The Bangladesh Embassy recently staged a programme to mark International Mother Language Day, celebrated annually on February 21.
The event was held at the Arab Open University in A’ali, with support from United Nations in Bahrain and Colours of the East art gallery.
Bangladesh Ambassador Mohammed Rais Hasan Sarower chaired the occasion, which was also attended by diplomats, Bahraini government officials and other guests.
In his address, Mr Sarower paid tribute to the martyrs whose sacrifices secured the right to speak their mother tongue, Bangla. He emphasised the importance of preserving all languages and encouraged the younger generation to value them.

The programme also featured a cultural segment with poetry recitations in various languages.
An exhibition showcasing more than 70 artworks by schoolchildren across Bahrain was inaugurated, and winners of an art competition organised earlier this month were honoured during the event.
