The Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry’s Agriculture and Animal Wealth Affairs sector and the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen co-operation in implementing specialised training programmes for agricultural entrepreneurs.
The MoU also establishes a framework for training members in modern agricultural methods, enabling them to establish and manage successful agricultural projects that support the national economy.
Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak said the signing of the MoU comes within the framework of the existing partnership to develop the agricultural sector in the kingdom in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to support entrepreneurs in engaging in agricultural investment projects.
He added that the ministry aims to strengthen national partnerships to develop the agricultural sector and enhance the efficiency of national cadres through providing specialised training programmes aligned with modern trends in agriculture and food production.
The minister highlighted the support and extended to the agricultural sector by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and president of the consultative council of NIAD through programmes dedicated to farmers. He said investment in human capital is one of the key pillars for achieving sustainable agricultural development, affirming that supporting entrepreneurs and enabling them to establish innovative and productive agricultural projects contributes to enhancing food security and creating quality opportunities that support the national economy.
He also affirmed that the ministry, in partnership with NIAD in training and qualification programmes, recently won the Arab Government Excellence Award – fourth edition 2025, for the “National Programme for Empowering Communities through Agricultural Training” project in the special recognition category.
NIAD secretary-general Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa highlighted the care and attention accorded to the agricultural sector by His Majesty, and the directives of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. She also noted the continuous support provided by HRH Princess Sabeeka has been reflected in various practical programmes that contributed to supporting the sector.
Shaikha Maram affirmed that the MoU represents an important step towards unifying efforts and exchanging expertise between the two sides, contributing to preparing and qualifying entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage agricultural projects efficiently and sustainably.
Shaikha Maram explained that the planned training programmes will adopt modern scientific and practical methods and focus on developing participants’ technical and administrative skills, enhancing the success of agricultural projects and transforming them into productive projects with added value that support the kingdom’s development process.
