Bahrain: LAST month was the hottest July on record since 1902.
The average temperature was 36C, which was 2.1C above the long-term normal, said the Transportation and Telecommunication Ministry’s Meteorological Directorate.
The mean maximum temperature of the month was 39.8C.
The highest temperature recorded was 47.4C in Sitra on July 15, with the lowest temperature recorded 28.1C on July 6 in Durrat Al Bahrain.
The lowest average temperature recorded throughout the month was 33.2C, which is the highest average minimum temperature for July since 1946.
During the month Bahrain had 14 days with maximum temperature exceeding 40C.
An average humidity of 51 per cent was recorded, with a maximum of 67pc.
It was also the fifth sunniest July since records began in 1968, with the total number of hours of sunshine at 365.1 hours, with the most amount of sunshine recorded in July
1974 with 377.8 hours.
The seasonal shamal known locally as Al Barreh continued affecting the kingdom till July 17 followed by easterly winds which brought hot and humid weather till the end of the month.
Shamal winds accounted for 45pc of the observation, with gusts reaching 32 knots on July 2 at Bahrain International Airport, and recording 37 knots on July 10 at Durrat Al
Bahrain.
There was dust haze on July 24, with visibility dropping to 1,500 metres at Bahrain International Airport.
