Bahrain: Footage showing a pack of vicious dogs tearing a cat into pieces in a Mehza neighbourhood caused uproar among residents.
The attack reportedly happened during the early hours of Sunday in Block 603.
The video that circulated online showed a stray dog biting a cat before around 16 others joined.
Residents have demanded action from authorities, saying the number of stray dogs in the areas has drastically increased over the last year.
One Bahraini, Zahra Ali Hasan, said the sight of stray dogs chasing her neighbours has become a regular
occurrence.
“My daughter witnessed what happened with the dogs and was in shock,” the mother-of-four told the GDN.
“I have an 11-year-old boy whom I fear would be attacked by the dogs anytime.
“Most neighbours have ordered their children not to play outdoors anymore.
“The place has become scary and the numbers have increased hugely in just one year.
“I was born and raised in this area but never have I seen these many stray dogs, and they were never as vicious as the ones we see now.
“There are some farms and vacant lands which can explain why dogs are always here but the government has to do something about it.
“One of my neighbours and her child were chased by a dog as they headed to her husband’s family
house.
“There are so many other similar incidents and people, even adults, are now scared of going out in the dark.
“A cat was killed this time but we could be their next
victim.”
