TOURS, workshops and talks will continue at the Post Office Museum this Saturday.
Organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, as part of a six-week programme, ‘From the Post’ will shine a spotlight on Manama’s rich heritage, with a range of activities lined up for adults and children.
Tour: Crafts, Skills, and Taste
Organised in collaboration with Manama Lab, the tour will explore some of the most important shops and commercial activities in the city. The event will take place between 9am and 11am and is open to those aged 16 and above.
Children’s Workshop: Design and Mail a Postcard
A children’s workshop in collaboration with Sard Child Cultural House will go on from 10am to 12.30pm. The event, for those aged seven to 13, includes a guided tour to Manama Suq, followed by an art workshop where children can design a postcard that embodies a Manama landmark of their own choice and send it to their family or friend’s address using Bahrain’s postal service.
It also includes a field visit to the Post Office to teach them how to send letters and postcards.
Tour and Live Cooking: Flavours of the Capital with Chef Mahdi Taheri
Executive Chef and entrepreneur Mahdi Taheri will lead a tour of Manama to explore the different markets of the old suq and experience the commercial vibrancy of the city.
Participants, aged 16 and above, will visit the spice markets and a local butcher and head back to Bab Al Bahrain with the chef who will create a special meal in one of his own steel master charcoal grills. The event will go on from 3.30pm to 6.30 pm.
Manama Bike Tour
Organised in collaboration with Kashta Tours, the event begins at 4pm from Manama Post Office Museum, passing by Manamat Al Gosaibi, Al Fadhel Mosque and Bait Altawawish. Participants will also proceed to Manama Suq, where they will take a break at Aloo Basheer cafeteria, before returning to the museum.
Photo Walk: Old Suq – New Suq
A photo-walk exploring Manama Suq will be led by Bahraini photographer Faris Algosaibi from 4pm to 6pm. The walk will start from the Post Office Museum and proceed through the renovated Bab Al Bahrain suq, spice markets and other shops in the central Manama area. It is open to those aged 16 and above.
All events cost BD5 per head – except the Live Cooking with Chef Taheri and bike tour, which costs BD10 and BD7 respectively.
Talk – The History of Manama Suq
Participants will be able to hear from researchers and businessmen Yousuf Salahuddin and Nabil Ajoor, who will talk about their lives in trade and trace the changes that occurred within the commercial sector in Manama over the years. It will go on from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Visit culture.gov.bh to register.
