MANAMA fought back from a goal down to claim a 4-1 victory over Budaiya in their 17th round match of the Nasser Bin Hamad Premier League at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium last night.
The postponed match got off to a sensational start when Sultan Al Sultana put Budaiya ahead in the 35th minute.
Manama scored the equaliser through Mahdi Abduljabbar in the 43rd minute and they managed to take the lead in the first half additional time when Ibrahim Al Khatal followed a rebound from the Budaiya goalkeeper and hit it powerfully into the net.
Manama extended their lead in the 64th minute when Al Khatal netted his second goal of the match by converting a cross from Franco in the 64th minute. Mohammed Al Hallaq compounded Budaiya’s misery by scoring Manama’s fourth goal in the 71st minute.
The victory brightened Manama’s chances of winning the championship as Muharraq were held to a goalless draw by Bahrain Club in the other match of the night, played at the Muharraq Stadium.
Manama lead the standing with 38 points, three clear of Muharraq and Al Khaldiya, who are on 35 each. Budaiya, who have been relegated to the Second Division, languish at the bottom, right below Bahrain Club who are on 15 points. Muharraq’s title hopes now rest on a victory in their next match against Manama.
