SCORES of WWE fans are expected to travel to Saudi Arabia tonight to watch the sold-out “Night of Champions” premium live event being held at the Jeddah Superdome.
This will be WWE’s ninth trip to Saudi Arabia as part of a 10-year deal with the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) in support of Saudi Vision 2030.
It promises to be a historic night featuring Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar and Seth “Freakin” Rollins.
Last year, Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi had held meetings with Saudi Tourism Minister Ahmed Aqeel Al Khateeb and GEA chief executive Faisal Saeed Bafarat, stressing Bahrain’s keenness to boost co-operation in the tourism sector between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Historically, it is also the 10th “Night of Champions”, the Jeddah event reviving a series that had previously been held annually from 2007 to 2015.
The event will showcase top-tier talent from WWE’s Raw and SmackDown brand divisions.
Undisputed WWE Tag Team champion Sami Zayn, who is a Canadian of Syrian descent, posted on his social media accounts pictures of himself after performing Umrah in Mecca.
Other wrestlers have also posted pictures of themselves taking in the sights in Jeddah with some wearing traditional local clothing.
The event, which starts at 8pm, is set to include the following marquee matches:
Kevin Owens and Zayn (c) vs The Bloodline (Undisputed WWE universal champion Reigns and Solo Sikoa with special counsel Paul Heyman) in a tag team match for the undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship;
Rollins vs AJ Styles in the tournament finale for the inaugural World Heavyweight Championship;
Rhodes vs Lesnar;
Gunther (c) vs Mustafa Ali in a singles match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship;
Bianca Belair (c) vs Asuka for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship;
Rhea Ripley (c) vs Natalya for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship; and
Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus.
