Manama: A maid who stole BD2,000 worth of jewellery from her employer’s home has lost an appeal against her conviction.
The 38-year-old Filipina was caught with four gold chains, four mobile phones, six dresses and a handbag belonging to her sponsor’s wife and neighbours in Hamad Town.
It was uncovered by the neighbour’s 16-year-old son who overheard the maid planning the robbery.
The Bahraini homeowner then found the stolen items under the defendant’s bed and reported her to the police.
However, the maid told prosecutors she had borrowed the jewellery and planned to return them.
She was convicted of theft by the Lower Criminal Court which sentenced her to six months in jail.
She lodged an appeal against her conviction at the High Criminal Appeals Court, which upheld the original sentence.
She will be deported after completing her sentence.
