THE highly-anticipated BKS-DC International Book Fair and Cultural Festival will kick off today at the BKS DJ hall in Segaya.
The festival, organised by India’s leading book publisher DC Books and the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam, promises to be a remarkable celebration of literature, culture and art.
“The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for 8pm at the BKS Diamond Jubilee Hall, will be graced by the presence of esteemed guests,” said BKS president PV Radhakrishna Pillai.
“Indian Ambassador Vinod Jacob will preside as the chief guest, while the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities director Huda Sayed Al Abdulghafar Alalawi will be the guest of honour,” BKS general secretary Varghese Karakkal added.
The book fair, which runs until November 18, offers a platform for renowned writers, cultural icons and political activities to engage with the audience.
And, to cater to visitors’ literary appetite, the fair has assembled a collection of more than 100,000 books encompassing over 5,000 titles from leading publishers in India and abroad.
Genres including poetry, novels, dictionaries, self-help books, study aids for competitive exams, spiritual works, travelogues, biographies, autobiographies and various Malayalam-English publications will be offered.
An array of cultural and artistic programmes have also been lined up.
A captivating photography exhibition organised by the BKS Photography Club will start today, running in parallel with the book fair.
In addition, a community painting group, organised by the BKS Fine Arts Club, will host a community painting event tomorrow at 3pm. More than 100 participants, including prominent artists and painters from Bahrain, will collaborate under the theme ‘Art for Peace’.
Also, distinguished figures such as P S Sreedharan Pillai, M A Baby, Sagarika Ghosh, Murali Tummarukudi, Santhosh George Kulangara, V J James, Chef Pillai, M V Nikesh Kumar, Ravunni and others will participate as guests throughout the duration of the festival.
