A WEEK of fun-filled cultural activities has been lined up at Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre, in Manama.
A Detailing and Tailoring for Beginners Workshop, on Monday and Wednesday, aims to enhance home sewing machine skills. Participants will learn how to operate the machine, the types of needles required for different types of fabrics and basic skills needed to sew garments.
The workshop, for people aged 18 and above, takes place from 4pm to 6.30pm.
On Saturday, a workshop on Arabic calligraphy focuses on the history, tools, the art of writing letters and words and Diwani’s Arabic script history and rules.
Diwani is a calligraphic variety of Arabic script, a cursive style developed during the reign of the early Ottoman Turks (16th century to early 17th century).
Interested participants, aged 14 and above, can check out the workshop from 10am to 12.30pm, in English and Arabic.
Also on Saturday, a Boat Making Workshop teaches participants how to identify different types of wood used for manufacturing the ship model and how to chop wood, draw and carve a piece of wood, and configuring ship attachments.
Boat making is one of the most traditional industries in Bahrain since ancient times.
The workshop, from 10am to 12.30pm, will be conducted in English and Arabic and is open to people aged 14 and above.
A Pottery on the Wheel workshop will cover topics such as clay and tools used in shaping, methods of clay wedging and kneading and how to shape and sculpt the wheel pottery clay.
Two sessions of the workshop will be held on Saturday, from 10am to 12.30pm and again from 4pm to 6.30pm.
Meanwhile, photography lovers can participate in a Professional Mobile Photography Workshop, where trainees will learn basic photography rules, common photography mistakes, lighting, configuration, adjusting colours, and practical application through their smart phones.
The workshop takes place today from 4pm to 6pm. It will conducted in Arabic and is meant for participants aged 14 and above.
