Promoting joint Arab co-operation and boosting economic and social integration is crucial to achieve aspirations for growth and prosperity, the Finance and National Economy Minister has affirmed.
Addressing the Economic and Social Council’s preparatory ministerial meeting for the 33rd Arab Summit that will be hosted by Bahrain, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa urged Arab nations to take advantage of successful models in digital transformation, innovation, finance technology and artificial intelligence to support sustainable economic and social development.
“The current global challenges require synergised efforts to boost economic and social integration in the region,” he said, urging them to support infrastructure, transportation, energy and food security projects to enhance economic capability and Arab integration.
The minister reiterated Bahrain’s steadfast stance in supporting Arab issues, calling for an immediate intervention to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, prevent further military escalation there and maintain regional peace, security and stability. He also urged concerted efforts with specialised organisations to overcome the exacerbating humanitarian condition in Palestine and achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Mideast.
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit underlined the need to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza, pointing out the ongoing humanitarian aid delivered by the Arab countries to the enclave. He accused Israel of hampering aid delivery and using famine as a weapon against people in Gaza.
