Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain – Ali Daylami, a Bahraini and international theatre and live entertainment producer based in New York City, has been nominated for the prestigious Tony Award for his role as a producer on the Broadway musical “Maybe Happy Ending.” Mr Daylami is believed to be the first Bahraini—and Gulf national—to be nominated for a Tony Award, often considered the highest honour in theatre globally. This marks a significant milestone for Bahrain and the region.
"As the first Bahraini to be nominated for a Tony, I carry this honour to the world’s stage not for myself alone, but for every voice in Bahrain who dares to dream big,” said Mr Daylami.
Mr Daylami, who previously held senior positions at the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) from 2007 to 2018, transitioned into the entertainment industry after earning a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Management and Producing from Columbia University. His other credits include the West End production “Umm Kalthoum and the Golden Era” in London, as well as Broadway productions such as “Wicked” and “The Heart of Rock and Roll.”
“Maybe Happy Ending” opened at the Belasco Theatre on November 12, 2024 to critical and audience acclaim. It was named “Best Theatre of 2024” by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, The Washington Post, Time Out NY, Entertainment Weekly, and other notable publications. An album of the critically acclaimed new musical is available now on streaming and digital platforms worldwide, with a physical release on CD and LP to follow.
In addition to its Tony nominations, “Maybe Happy Ending” received more than 30 nominations and awards across New York’s theatre circuit, including the Drama Desk Awards. The production is considered a leading contender this year across all major awards.
The winners of the Tony Awards will be announced on Sunday, June 8 in a live ceremony hosted by 2016 Tony winner and “Wicked” film star Cynthia Erivo.
