The Bahrain Handball national team were scheduled to leave early morning today for Hungary where they will take part in the second phase of the team’s training camp ahead of their World Championship Participation in France next month.
Bahrain Handball Association (BHA) has also announced Algerian Saleh Bushikero as the new coach of the team following the departure of Romanian Ehan Omar.
Bushikero has been loaned to BHA from Emirati club Al Ahli and will return to the UAE after the world championships.
Twenty players will attend the training camp and later four players will be sent back to Bahrain after the coach announces the final 16 players to represent the kingdom.
The players are Hussain Al Sayyad, Mahmoud Abdulqader, Mahdi Saad, Jassim Al Salatna, Mohamed Habib, Ali Mirza, Mohammed Abdulhussain, Mohamed Mirza Salman, Hassan Shehab, Ali Eid, Mohamed Miza, Belal Besham, Ahmed Jalal, Hassan Al Samahiji, Ali Khamis, Hussain Al Qaydoom, Ahmed Al Muqabi, Ali Hussain and Kameel Mahfouz.
Mohammed Al Muqabi has also travelled with the team, but his participation depends on his recovery from injury.
The team is expected to take part in a friendly tournament alongside hosts Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
Following the friendly tournament, the team will travel to Serbia where they will face the Serbian national team twice, followed by a game against Saudi Arabia and another against Bosnia and Herzegovina before leaving for Paris.
The world championship will kick off on January 11. Bahrain’s opening game will be on the 13th, against Sweden.
Bahrain are potted in Group ‘D’ alongside Qatar, Sweden, Denmark, Egypt and Argentina.
