A two-year-old boy was among five people who drowned in Abu Dhabi and Umm Al Quwain due to the torrential rain which lashed the UAE on Friday and Saturday.
According to Emarat Al Youm newspaper, the toddler drowned after falling off from the window of his father’s car which overturned due to rainwater flooding.
Civil Defence helicopters rescued a young Emirati, who was submerged in rainwater, and an elderly person.
The torrential rain affected 25 houses, in addition to farms and roads and caused the death of a sheep.
Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Traffic in Dubai reported 1,447 road accidents in the emirate.
The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology has forecast an unsettled weather on Monday, adding that the climatic conditions will start to improve tomorrow.
