Co-founder of The High Line of New York, Joshua David, was the speaker at a key event of the Spring of Culture yesterday. One of the most innovative urban reclamation projects in the world ‘The High Line’ is a new park atop an elevated rail structure on Manhattan’s West Side.
Mr David in his lecture at the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Centre for Culture and Research, Muharraq, shared his experience in the establishment of a non-profit group to maintain the legacy of the railway line, which runs through residential neighbourhoods, transforming the line into a green breathing space. Mr David along with Robert Hammond in 1999 redesigned the ruins of the High Line, which had become obsolete, turning it to an aerial green-way and rails-to-trails park.
