MANAMA: Bahrain police yesterday arrested 286 people wanted in security-related cases, including fugitives who had escaped from Jaw prison and other convicted terrorists in a major swoop on Duraz.
Five outlaws were killed and 19 policemen injured during the security operations.
The officers were hurt as they confronted terrorist groups which hurled firebombs, metal rods, knives and axes.
The Interior Ministry said some of those wanted were found hiding in the house of Isa Qassim in the village.
“This is part of the security operation underway in the area to protect villagers from dangerous criminals who infiltrated them,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that legal measures are being taken.
The ministry said that the security forces were able to remove “all that disrupts people’s interests and curbs their free movement, including road blocks and closure”.
It announced that police deployments would remain in the area to ensure people’s safety and smooth movement.
The ministry urged parents to take care of their children and inform the security authorities instantly in case they have information about arms caches or dangerous substances which may be used for acts of terrorism.
