Five Asian men involved in stealing gold jewellery worth AED3 million was arrested in the UAE, according to Emarat Al Youm newspaper.
The masked burglars broke into a jewellery shop in Dubai International City and used pepper spray on the employees to overpower them before fleeing the crime scene.
The Dubai police acted speedily and arrested members of the gang within 48 hours and recovered the stolen jewellery, said Dubai Police commander-in-chief Major-General Abdullah Al Marri.
Three fugitives were tracked down to their hideout in Al Ain while the other two were caught in Al Ruwais.
Major-General Al Marri said that the jewelry displayed at the shop during the robbery was valued at AED60,000 and deplored the insufficient security surveillance equipment.
