MOSCOW: Saudi Arabia and Russia have pledged to usher in a new era of ties.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is the first Saudi monarch to visit Russia, met Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow yesterday.
“We are determined to push these relations to greater heights, and in this context we would like to pay tribute to the fruitful discussions with President Vladimir Putin, in which it was agreed to strengthen co-operation between our two countries in various fields,” King Salman said.
He stressed that the achievement of peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East and the resolution of the crises in Yemen, Syria and elsewhere requires Iran to stop its expansionist policies and abide by the principles of good neighbourliness.
King Salman expressed his hope for Moscow’s participation in the implementation of Vision 2030.
Prime Minister Medvedev said his country is keen to promote co-operation and push for wider horizons between them.
Medvedev applauded the constructive discussions between the King and the Russian President, and the role of these talks in promoting and developing ties.
King Salman’s landmark visit is widely seen as a potential turning point in Middle East politics and even the conduct of oil markets.
Saudi Arabia and Russia on Thursday signed more than 15 agreements worth billions of dollars, ranging from nuclear, oil and trade as well as military and space exploration.
