Eight people have so far died of acute of influenza since January up from six flu-related deaths in 2016, according to the Times of Oman.
The Ministry of Health issued the updated statistics, urging people to take precautions as the flu season approaches.
“The flu virus breaks in early September and runs until mid-May in Oman which is a semi-tropical country”, it said.
The ministry reported a total of 952 cases of influenza as of October 10, down from 1,492 cases in 2016.
The peak was in 2015 when 25 patients passed away.
The ministry said that the rate of flu-related deaths remains within normal, urging people to take seasonal vaccines, particularly health care workers, pregnant women, the elderly and patients with chronic illness such as HIV / HIV / AIDS and those taking immunosuppressive drugs and pilgrims."
