MY housemaid this week received a message from someone claiming to be from a telecom company at City Centre using informing her that she had won BD20,000 in a phone number lottery but telling her that she should send him BD100 via Western Union.
Naturally it was a scam and I reported it to the telecom office. However, they said that they could do nothing about it.
But I thought that all mobile phone companies had, at the least, to record CPR numbers if not addresses of all users. This should enable the Interior Ministry to track this man, arrest him, and lock him up for as long as possible.
But the company do not seem interested in following up. As the caller speaks in Hindi as well as Arabic he is probably trying this scam with the lower paid who all dream of winning a fortune for their families.
Please do something about it and take action.
