Manama: Bahrain’s population has reached 1.5 million this year, according to latest statistics released by the Information and e-Government Authority.
Bahraini citizens make up 45 per cent of the population (677,000) against 823,000 expatriates.
This year the population has increased by 77,000, with 214 newborns registered every day.
The Capital Governorate has the highest population density, with 577,000 people.
Of these, 407,000 are expatriates (more than 70pc of the total number of residents in the governorate).
