Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar hailed Bahrain national cycling team which returned from Sharm El Shaikh, in Egypt, after coming sixth place overall at the Arab Championship.
The team, which won a silver medal at the challenging regional championship, was given a warm welcome at the airport.
Algeira emerged overall winners with 17 medals (10 gold, four silver and three bronze) while hosts Egypt came second with nine medals (five gold, four silver), and the UAE (1, 2, 2) were third. Morocco (4, 0, 5) were fourth, followed by Iraq (0, 1, 3).
The Bahraini delegation was headed by Bahrain Cycling Association (BCA) member Yousef Jawad and included coach Abdulla Ali and four riders – Mohammed Ebrahim, Kumail Abdulla, Jassim Mohammed and Ahmed Nasser.
In his meeting with delegation members at the committee premises in Seef, Askar said he is proud for the outstanding results achieved by the Bahraini athletes at regional and international competitions, including the cycling team which had an honorable finish at the Arab Championship.
Askar vowed to continue BOC’s support to BCA for more achievements at the international level.
