Manama: A group of Royal Bahrain Air Force officers will join Russian astronauts on a trip to the International Space Station.
His Majesty King Hamad, the Supreme Commander, was updated about the training programme to prepare them for the space expedition.
This came as he visited BDF headquarters yesterday, in the presence of BDF Commander-in-Chief Marshall Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Defence Minister Lieutenant-General Youssef Al Jalahma and BDF Chief of Staff Lt Gen Dheyab bin Saqr Al -Nuaimi.
BDF Royal Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa outlined the training programme.
He stressed the officers’ keen desire and enthusiasm to be part of the space trip.
The King hailed the step which, he said, comes within the joint co-operation between Bahrain and Russia.
He congratulated the 12th batch of cadet officers (Ahmed Al Fateh Brigade), who graduated on Wednesday under royal patronage at the Isa Royal Military College.
His Majesty also commended the BDF servicemen, hailing their bravery and military contribution in serving their homeland, since Bahrain’s national army was founded.
He hailed BDF participation in the Operation Restore Hope, as part of the Saudi-led Alliance, to support justice, back the brethren and provide humanitarian relief aid.
He appreciated the BDF’s future plans to supply all armies and units with latest military and defence systems to enhance their capabilities to perform their national duties.
He praised the BDF Commander-in-Chief, hailing his constant and valuable efforts to develop the military units.
