The United Arab Emirates has exempted its free zones from paying the Value Added Tax (VAT), which took effect early this month.
UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum issued an edict designating 20 free trade zones which will be exempted from the VAT levy and treated as “off-shore land”.
Seven free trade zones are located in Dubai, 3 in Abu Dhabi, 2 in the emirate of Sharjah, one exempted free trade zone in Ajman, 2 in Um Al-Quwain, 3 in Ras Al-Khaimah and 2 zones in Fujairah.
