AMERICAN music icons Kool and the Gang are set to headline a day-long festival in Bahrain later this month.

Held at Bahrain International Circuit, the event named Desert Beats will feature non-stop music on January 26 from 2pm.

The legendary funk and RnB band are the first act to be revealed and others will be announced as the event draws closer.

Kool and the Gang have been a force in music ever since they first assembled in 1964, having sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and having won multiple prestigious awards.

After winning the prestigious Grammy award – Album of the Year – in 1978 for Saturday Night Fever, they went on to win seven American Music Awards.

They have also registered 25 Top 10 RnB hits, nine Top 10 pop hits, and 31 gold and platinum albums.

One of their biggest tracks is Celebration, along with Get Down On It, Cherish and Ladies Night, to name a few.

Kool and the Gang’s drum beats, bass, guitar and signature horn lines lace the tracks of numerous artists, including Jay-Z, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cypress Hill, P Diddy and the Beastie Boys.

Their music is also featured on the soundtracks for Rocky, Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction, Wreck It Ralph and countless others.

In October 2015, Kool and the Gang were honoured with a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame and the following year, which marked their 50th together, they were inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

Further announcements are set to be made in the coming days confirming the live band line-up for the January 26 festival.

A selection of local bands will be taking to the stage throughout the day.

Tickets are priced at BD20 for adults and BD10 for those aged 15 years and below, while children aged seven years old and below can attend for free.
