A FESTIVAL featuring world-renowned artists and an array of local talent will be hosted by Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) this weekend.
American music icons Kool and the Gang will headline the event named Desert Beats which begins at 2pm on Friday.
Kool and the Gang have been a force in music ever since they first assembled in 1964, having sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and having won multiple prestigious awards.
They have also registered 25 Top 10 RnB hits, nine Top 10 pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums.
One of their biggest tracks is ‘Celebration’, along with ‘Get Down On It’, ‘Cherish’ and ‘Ladies Night’, to name a few.
In October 2015, Kool and the Gang were honoured with a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame and the following year which marked their 50th together, they were inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
Grammy-nominated British band UB40 featuring founder and frontman Ali Campbell, vocalist Astro and Mickey virtue on keyboard are also among the big names performing at the first-of-its-kind music festival.
With more than 50 hits in the UK Singles Chart over the years, the pop and reggae band have been nominated for four Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album.
The festival will also feature a tribute to the King of Pop by guest artists Unity: The Latin Tribute to Michael Jackson and performances by Youri Menna, Adam Kadabra, Mo Zowayed, Majaz and Tom Abelis accompanied by DJ Gustavito.
