A Kuwaiti Twitter user has today been sentenced to five years in prison in a state court case for defaming the United Arab Emirates.
The Criminal Court convicted Abdulla Al-Saleh in the libel case lodged against him and sentenced him to jail.
The fugitive convict now faces a total of 31 years in prison, as he was indicted in other defamatory cases involving Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE.
The man who was convicted in absentia announced a few days ago that he had applied for political asylum in Britain and handed over his Kuwaiti passport to London authorities following the first court verdict.
