Passengers will soon be spared the chore of taking their shoes off at security checks before boarding planes in Saudi Arabia.
The airports security authorities have unveiled plans to introduce cutting-edge new ultraviolet scanners, reported Sabq.
The new hi-tech equipment went on display at the State Security pavilion of the 32nd Janadriyah National Festival for Heritage and Culture, which was held under the patronage of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
The scanner directs ultraviolet light at the surface of the shoe, using differential reflectometry to emit a particular signal in case of a potential danger threatening passengers’ lives.
The new biometric scanners will be deployed at Saudi airports soon after completing all technical measures.
